Akhilesh and Amit Shah Clash Over Speaker’s Powers in Lok Sabha

In the Lok Sabha, there was a heated argument between Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and Home Minister Amit Shah. During the monsoon session, they were discussing the Waqf Bill. Akhilesh Yadav said that both the ruling party and the opposition are losing their rights. He told the Speaker, “You are the judge of democracy. I heard that even your powers are being reduced. We need to fight for you. I oppose this.”

Amit Shah responded that the authority over the Speaker is not just for the opposition; it belongs to the whole House. He said that you can’t make vague statements and that the opposition is not the guardian of the Speaker’s rights. This caused some commotion in the House.

The Waqf Board Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday by Minority Welfare Minister Kiren Rijiju. As soon as the bill was presented, opposition parties started protesting. The bill aims to amend the Waqf Act for the 44th time. The central government said the bill’s purpose is to manage and oversee Waqf properties better.

As soon as the bill was introduced, there was a lot of noise between the ruling and opposition parties. The opposition accused the bill of targeting a specific community. The government asked the opposition to read the bill’s provisions before protesting. Akhilesh Yadav, President of the Samajwadi Party and MP from Kannauj, said, “I completely oppose this bill.”
