TRAI Takes Major Step to End Spam Calls
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made a big decision to tackle spam calls. Starting September 1, you will no longer receive unwanted spam SMS and calls. TRAI has ordered strict actions against telemarketers who do not follow the rules for two years. They will be blacklisted.
TRAI’s New Rules
TRAI has become strict about spam calls. The new rules will stop telemarketers from making calls from private numbers. TRAI has instructed telecom companies to block these telemarketers.
Action Against Robotic Calls
TRAI has also ordered action against automated robotic calls. They held a meeting on Tuesday and told service providers and telemarketers to take effective steps to stop bulk messaging using voice calls. The regulator has called on all stakeholders, especially telecom companies and their telemarketers, to act.
Technical Solutions and Fraud Prevention
Immediate action will be taken to prevent fraud and scams by using 10-digit numbers for identification and technical solutions for multiple calls. TRAI is working with a joint committee to address the growing number of fraud cases.
Future of Satellite Communication
TRAI will also start a consultation process within a month to decide on rules and procedures for spectrum allocation for satellite-based telecom services. TRAI believes that India’s satellite communication sector has great potential for growth.
The government has asked TRAI to recommend rules and conditions for allocating spectrum for some satellite-based telecom services.
